Fun Facts

There's more! Here are some fun facts about the Tanners

Now that you know a little bit about our background, I also wanted to share a few additional fun facts about us.  Use the bolded headings below to fill in the blank in the next sentence: Sarah and Nate are the most _________ couple in the world!

Cool: Coolness comes easy when you drive around in a hot pink ‘81 El Camino, like we do! Aside from that, Nate has great karaoke skills, and Sarah has mad dance moves for any tunes. Sarah loves dressing up for any occasion (she has a closet full of costumes)  like Halloween, parades, birthday parties, dances and holidays. Nate occasionally allows her to dress him up as well. We both enjoy having guests, playing games, throwing parties and making our home welcoming to all.

Balanced: Nate often reminds Sarah that the secret to life is balance! As two mature professionals (Sarah is a Physician Assistant in a pediatric clinic and Nate owns his own real estate business), we work hard and we play hard and we make time to just relax. We have weekly planning sessions together to keep ourselves in balance with each other, and with our goals, and with the world we live in. Sarah is high energy and Nate is a mellow “go with the flow” guy. Together our skills and attributes balance and complement each other well.

Travelin’: Nate has been to Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Spain, France, and Portugal. Sarah has visited Chile, Paraguay, and Mexico.  Together Nate and Sarah went to Thailand this past year (2014), and spent two weeks touring the country side with some local Thai friends as our guides.  We both lived in South American countries, Nate in Brazil and Sarah in Paraguay, and we have plans to return to visit each of these countries as a family to visit our many friends there. We have family that live in many different states (Utah, New Mexico, Missouri, Kansas, Georgia, Nevada, Virginia, Tennessee, and Wyoming) and we enjoy traveling to see them too. Places on our list to visit in 2015 are New York, Washington D.C., and hopefully Brazil!

Smart: We are both college graduates, and we didn't stop there, because our careers push us to continue learning.  We each speak 3 languages. (Sarah speaks English, Spanish, and ASL. Nate speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and he is quickly learning ASL as well.) Sarah was raised on a farm, with lots of practical skills and common sense to combine with her formal education. Nate is a real estate mastermind who has built a wonderful company that blesses many. One of his colleagues recently told Sarah, in all sincerity, that "Nate is the smartest real estate guy I know."  We highly value education, and not just classroom education, but of all kinds!

Active:  We both enjoy playing sports, especially basketball (we both played in high school). We often spend together time in our driveway shooting hoops. We swim in our backyard pool all summer long, (which is six months long in Phoenix). Nate plays ultimate frisbee three times per week just about year round. Sarah dances (ballet, tap, swing, salsa, country, hip hop) all the time, and even in the grocery store aisle to the background music. Sarah does morning yoga and Nate lifts weights. We sometimes jog around our neighborhood, and we like to go hiking, camping, and people watching. Nate sings in a choir, and Sarah is a leader of a church youth group.

Dedicated: Sarah never gives up, and her dedication can sometimes be mistaken for stubbornness, but when she makes a goal she gets to work and she goes and goes with whatever it is she is trying to accomplish. She is a recovering perfectionist.  Nate runs a very successful business that he has built from the ground up with lots of hard work.

Family Centered: We both grew up in large families. Nate is one of eight children and Sarah is one of seven.  Living far away from either family, we frequently make trips to many different states to be involved in the life events of family members and spend quality time with our families.  Although these trips can be expensive and sometimes inconvenient, requiring long travels, they are always worth the sacrifice to us because we treasure our families, we are blessed by them, and we truly enjoy the time spent with them. Sarah's family loves to work together and they have often planned family get-togethers around work projects for various families members so they can continue to take part in blessing and serving each other while also having fun together. Sarah and her sisters always have dedicated “sister time” each time they get together, which involves painting their toenails and catching up on each other’s lives. Nate's family loves to play board games, and he and his siblings often stay up late playing games once all the young kids are asleep. Our families are really excited about the idea of us adopting. To them it is natural thing -- to accept a child into our family regardless of where they came from.

Loving: Life without love is boring and lonely, which is why in our home one is never bored or feeling alone. We express how we feel and we take advantage of every opportunity to say “I love you”, and there is no shortage of hugs. Hugs for a job well done, for a bad day, as an apology, or a good morning, or a bright idea, or just because.

Culturally diverse:  Among the members of our two immediate families we have a large mix of cultures, from farmers, to city folk, cowboys, Hispanic, Thai, Italian, Irish, French, deaf, religious, non-religious, patriotic, military veterans, bikers, teachers and doctors.

We can only imagine how overwhelming this process must be for you and your family.  We truly hope that you can find peace in any decision you make. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our profile and getting to know us better. We would love for you to find out even more about us!

Sincerely, Sarah and Nate
